Warning Signs of a Gambling Problem

Problem gambling is a behavioral disorder, not a moral failing. Look out for these warning signs — in yourself or someone close to you:

  • Gambling more money or more often than you originally intended.
  • Feeling restless or irritable when you try to cut down or stop.
  • Repeated unsuccessful attempts to cut back.
  • Preoccupation with gambling — planning the next session, reliving past wins, mentally totaling losses.
  • Gambling to escape stress, anxiety, depression, or boredom.
  • "Chasing losses" — gambling more to try to win back what was lost.
  • Lying to family, friends, or therapists about the extent of your gambling.
  • Borrowing money to gamble or to pay gambling debts.
  • Missing work, family, or social commitments because of gambling.
  • Feeling shame, guilt, or hopelessness about your gambling.

If three or more of these apply to you, please consider reaching out for support today. Early intervention dramatically improves outcomes.

State Self-Exclusion Programs

Most US states with regulated gambling operate a voluntary self-exclusion register. Once you enroll, licensed casinos in that state are required to refuse your business for the period you select (typically 1 year, 5 years, or lifetime). Programs differ by state — for state-specific enrollment information, contact your state gaming commission or visit:

Tools Available at Online Casinos

Every reputable casino, including all 15 brands listed on our homepage, offers responsible gambling tools you can activate before, during, or after you've started feeling out of control. Use them. They are free, immediate, and effective.

  • Deposit limits. Set a daily, weekly, or monthly maximum deposit. Hard limits cannot be raised by the casino's marketing team — only by a 24-hour cool-off period.
  • Loss limits. Set the maximum amount you're willing to lose in a single session. The site stops you from wagering past it.
  • Time limits. Set the maximum amount of time you'll spend in a session. The site logs you out automatically.
  • Reality checks. A pop-up reminder at intervals (e.g., every 30 minutes) showing how long you've been playing and your current win/loss.
  • Time-out / cool-off. Voluntary pause from 24 hours to 6 months. Account is locked, marketing emails stop, your funds remain safe.
  • Self-exclusion. Permanent or long-term ban from the casino. Most operators apply self-exclusion across all brands in their group.

To activate any of these tools, log into your casino account and look for "Responsible Gambling" or "Account Limits" in the account menu. If you can't find it, contact the casino's live chat — every licensed operator is required to assist immediately.

Tools for Parents and Guardians

To keep minors from accessing online gambling sites at home, consider installing one of these blocking applications:

  • Gamban — blocks gambling sites and apps on phones, tablets, and computers · gamban.com.
  • BetBlocker — free site-blocking tool · betblocker.org.
  • GamBlock — paid blocking software with kernel-level enforcement · gamblock.com.

How to Help a Loved One

Watching someone you love struggle with gambling is painful. Some practical guidance:

  • Approach with concern, not judgment. Use specific, observable examples rather than accusations.
  • Encourage them to call 1-800-GAMBLER or attend a Gamblers Anonymous meeting.
  • Protect shared finances. Consider separate bank accounts or read-only access to gambling-related credit lines.
  • Do not pay off their gambling debts on the assumption it will fix the problem. It rarely does.
  • Get support for yourself through Gam-Anon — your wellbeing matters too.

The PrimeBit Pledge

PrimeBit will never:

  • Recommend gambling as a way to make money.
  • Encourage chasing losses, "doubling up", or any specific betting system claiming to beat the house.
  • Run promotional content aimed at minors or vulnerable adults.
  • Hide bonus terms, rollover requirements, or max cashout caps.
  • Send marketing emails to readers who have indicated a problem with gambling.

If you believe we've fallen short of these commitments, please email [email protected] immediately.
